3rd Niigata International Animation Film Festival Unveiled
Introduction to the Festival
The 3rd Niigata International Animation Film Festival, set to take place from March 15 to 20, 2025, in Niigata City, is Asia’s largest festival featuring a competition section for feature-length animated films. The festival’s poster visual has been revealed, showcasing the event’s artistic flair. Additionally, a selection of notable works from last year’s 2nd festival will be screened at “Niigata International Animation Film Festival in TOKYO,” starting November 30 at Eurospace.
Highlights of the Festival
- The international competition focuses on feature-length animations, gathering works that anticipate global animation trends.
- Last year’s Grand Prix winner, “The Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman,” directed by Mamoru Oshii, will be released in Japan in June 2024.
- The 2nd festival saw significant participation, with over 24,000 attendees, including international filmmakers like Nora Twomey from Cartoon Saloon in Ireland.
This year’s poster expands on the theme of the “Creator’s Hand” introduced in the 2nd festival, blending Asian aesthetics with a futuristic vibe, embodying the dynamic world of Asia’s largest feature-length animation festival.
