The Three Layers of Elbaf: What Lies in the ‘Heavenly Realm’?
Elbaf Island, known as the home of the ‘Warlond Kingdom’, has gradually revealed its mysteries. What lies at the top of the giant treasure tree, Adam? The key issue is the location of the ‘castle’, hinting at the presence of a formidable boss enemy in the Elbaf arc. In this article, we will explore the three layers of Elbaf, their significance, and what we can expect in the upcoming storyline.

Understanding the Layers of Elbaf
Elbaf consists of three distinct layers: the ‘Heavenly Realm’, the ‘Sunny Realm’, and the ‘Underworld’. The ‘Underworld’ corresponds to the surface of Elbaf Island, while the other two layers are situated atop the treasure tree Adam. All of these layers are integral parts of the ‘Warlond Kingdom’.
The ‘Underworld’ is perceived by the giant race of Elbaf as being ‘on the roots of the treasure tree Adam’. This is why the ‘Warlond Kingdom’ is said to be synonymous with the treasure tree Adam itself. In the middle layer, the ‘Sunny Realm’, reside notable characters like Dorry and Brogy, and it is here that the Straw Hat Pirates visited one of their villages.
The Three Layers Representing Morning, Noon, and Night
In Chapter 1131, Loki describes the ‘Underworld’ as the ‘First World’, referring to it as the ‘world where the sun has died’. In Chapter 1132, Dorry describes the ‘Sunny Realm’ as a place where ‘the sun shines’. This gives us clues about the positioning of the ‘Heavenly Realm’.
The ‘Heavenly Realm’ can be interpreted as the ‘world where the sun is reborn’. Elbaf celebrates a festival called the ‘Winter Solstice Festival’, which commemorates the ‘death and rebirth of the sun’. Thus, if the ‘Underworld’ represents ‘death’, then the ‘Heavenly Realm’ symbolizes ‘rebirth’.
- Heavenly Realm (Third World): A world where the sun is reborn (Morning)
- Sunny Realm (Second World): A world where the sun shines (Noon)
- Underworld (First World): A world where the sun has died (Night)
The phrase ‘the world where the sun has died’ represents ‘night’, and if it is to be reborn, it signifies ‘dawn’ and ‘morning’. The intermediate layer is the ‘Sunny Realm’, where the sun shines at ‘noon’. However, there is a peculiar feeling about the ‘Underworld’ being labeled as the ‘First World’. If that is the case, then the layer above it should be the ‘Second World’, and the top layer would be the ‘Third World’. This arrangement seems odd: night → morning → noon. Therefore, the top layer might actually be the ‘Second World’, but that does not seem plausible either. This is where the mythology of Elbaf comes into play!
The Mythology of Elbaf
The designation of the ‘Underworld’ as the ‘First World’ and the ‘world where the sun has died’ is deeply rooted in the mythology of Elbaf. This mythology likely influences the arrangement of the three layers. The beginning of the myth revolves around the ‘death of the sun’.
This is thought to begin with the ‘death of Joy Boy’, who became the ‘Sun God Nika’. Thus, the ‘First World’ corresponds to the ‘Blank Century’, representing the ‘past’. The ‘Second World’ is the ‘present world’, where the living humans reside. The giants of Elbaf inhabit this layer, which is the ‘Sunny Realm’. Consequently, what does the ‘Third World’ represent?
It may symbolize the ‘dawn’ that comes with the resurrection of the ‘Sun God Nika’ (Joy Boy). The ‘Heavenly Realm’, being the top layer, represents the ‘future’. In essence, the mythology of Elbaf conveys that although the ‘Sun God’ once died, he will inevitably resurrect and lead the world into dawn, bridging the past (the Blank Century) to the present and heralding a bright future for the warriors of Elbaf.
The Castle of the Warlond Kingdom
The ‘Heavenly Realm’, being the domain of the gods, is particularly where the ‘Sun God’ resides. This might explain why the warriors of the giant race live in the layer just below, the ‘Sunny Realm’. But where do the royal family of the ‘Warlond Kingdom’ reside? Is the castle that King Harald once occupied located in the ‘Heavenly Realm’? I suspect it might be in the ‘Sunny Realm’.
The castle, a massive structure with cannons visible from afar, does not seem to be a ‘village’. The village visited by Luffy and his crew did not feature any cannons. I believe the royal family of the ‘Warlond Kingdom’ lives alongside the warriors in the ‘Sunny Realm’. This ties into the ideology of the Elbaf royal family.
If the ‘Heavenly Realm’ is indeed the domain of the gods, then residing there would imply a connection to the Celestial Dragons. However, I feel that the royal family of Elbaf does not mimic the gods. Instead, they likely built their castle on a slightly elevated area (a high branch) within the same layer as the warriors. They probably did not engage in any divine mimicry.
What Lies in the ‘Heavenly Realm’?
It is likely that the ‘Heavenly Realm’ houses the ‘Temple of the Sun God’. This is hinted at by the ‘Adventure in the Land of Blocks’. This temple is separate from the castle.
Within this ‘temple’, there may be a ‘legendary Devil Fruit’ passed down through the royal family of Elbaf, which Loki reportedly consumed. This Devil Fruit is likely connected to the ‘Sun God’ and has been safeguarded within the temple. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the ‘Poneglyph’, which contains the history of the world, is also housed in the ‘Heavenly Realm’.
As for the boss of the Elbaf arc, it is speculated that the ‘Sun God’ (whose true identity is the ‘Road’) resides in the temple of the ‘Heavenly Realm’. This character may be impersonating the ‘Sun God’. Luffy is expected to confront this false ‘Sun God’ in the ‘Heavenly Realm’. This raises the question of whether Loki, if freed by Luffy, would head towards the ‘Heavenly Realm’. However, if someone is already residing there, the situation changes. There may be someone already occupying that space, and Loki could be deceived by them.
Whether it is Loki or someone else, it is clear that the boss of the Elbaf arc is in the ‘Heavenly Realm’, attempting to dominate or control the ‘Warlond Kingdom’ of Elbaf. We will have to keep an eye on the developments!
